I have been using an envirocycle composter for over 25 years. In my two-person household we only produce maybe a gallon or so of compost per year. Food waste begins by not wasting food in the first place.

My particular composter stores compost tea in the rolling base then I dilute it five to one and use to fertilize my vegetable beds.

You're absolutely right, Guy, food waste begins by not wasting food in the first place. Great point. Do you have any tips or tricks to share about how to do that? Next's week post is about how to shrink our "waste footprint." I'm looking for real-world habits and practices that can help us all avoid wasting food and buying unnecessary packaging. Thanks!

One thing that comes to mind is reusing plastic as much as practical before disposing it. For instance, I use yogurt and cream cheese containers for food storage, paint mixing, parts storage, etc.
